After a leisurely drive across Utah, we met up with our group in Vernal, and embarked on a four-day rafting trip down the Green River through Dinosaur National Monument.

The stretch of river passes through Lodore, Whirlpool and Split Mountain canyons. This is Rainbow Park, just before the entrance to Split Mountain.

After the river, we headed south, to visit Horseshoe Canyon, a small detached unit of Canyonlands National Park that features fantastic rock art. We camped in the open desert before and after the hike. "Primitive" camping doesn't mean uncomfortable camping.
