Caracara hanging out near a backcountry lodge along the trail. As the Cornell Ornithology Lab describes them, the caracara "looks like a hawk with its sharp beak and talons, behaves like a vulture, and is technically a large tropical black-and-white falcon."
This was not the only limited-capacity bridge we encountered.
We had only one episode of really unpleasant weather, although we hiked in it anyway. Steady rain and wind so strong it whipped spray off the surface of the lake made for a challenging morning.
